C3AK tries to keep a balance be-tween home life and church life. In order to do that we plan activities for our church family, but not too many! We try to have a healthy blend of events geared toward age groups, areas of interest, community building, and spiritual formation.But we are not a church that thinks you should spend all of your spare time doing church stuff. Our hope is that by taking part in SOME of the events we have available you will be energized, renewed, and equipped to take your faith into the life you live in the world outside our doors.Check out the boxes to the right and you can see the most current information on events in the near future.

Life groups are the life-blood of a growing church. This is the place where friendships can grow, conver-sations happen, and support can be found when life takes an unexpected detour.Some of the groups offered change over the course of a year, while some remain for year after year. We are also interested in new groups all the time. Maybe you have idea for a group you'd like to see! In reality we understand that outside is a poor label because• the poor,• those in need, the physically afflicted• the childrenThese ARE the very ones who are closest to Gods heart. So, in our own small way, we try do some things to make a difference in their lives and keep them close to our hearts. You can click on a link to their sites and learn more about them. If, by chance, you come across something that offends you, keep it to yourself. First, we dont control what they do or where their sites may take you. Second, from the beginning we didnt pick any of these organizations because they were perfect. We picked them because God brought us together, and they have become our friends. On the other hand, if you are moved with Godly compassion, as we have been, you can make a donation to any of these ministry opportunities through C3AK or directly to the organizations themselves. Youth Ministry

Our lives with God are about a relationship, not a list of rules. Our goal is to provide a safe place where young people (grades 6-12) can discover what that relationship looks like, as individuals and as a group.

We meet every Tuesday night, 6:30 - 8:00, for games, refreshments, prayer, Bible study, and plenty of hanging out.

One Friday each month (usually the third Friday) is scheduled for wRECk Time. This may be a game night, a movie night or some other organized activity out on the town.

Christ Community Church is a pastor led church because we believe it is biblical.The shepherds of the New Testament Church are charged with its oversight. Acts 20:28-32We also recognize the wisdom of more than our own voices so we enjoy a close confidence with a Board of Elders and open conversation with our members on important issues and decisions.As a part of C3AK you should always feel that you can approach one of us, the Pastors and the Elders, about anything at anytime.We may seem busy and preoccupied, but we always have time for you.

Who We Are We're not your average church and we hope youll spend some time on the website to find out why. Also, if you find yourself in Anchorage, make sure C3AK is on your menu of places to be.We are a place for authentic worship, understandable Spiritual teaching and discussion. We have a fun kid's ministry, a safe place for teenagers to belong and more.But most importantly, C3AK is place a for anyone, ANYONE, to come and belong. Believe or not. Buy in or not. Just come and join the conversation. Were convinced that if you hang out long enough you'll discover the same thing we've discovered -- a vital relationship with God and people who love God that makes life today a lot more worthwhile.

Where did our name come from?

We spent considerable time making a decision on a church name. Guiding the process were three principles.

First: rather than be trendy or catchy, we wanted the name to stand the test of time.

Second: we wanted the name to be inclusive and not exclusive.

Third: as much as possible, we wanted the name to be self-explanatory.

Additionally, we believed that the use of the word church was essential as opposed to chapel, fellowship, assembly or point! Christ Community Church fit these guidelines perfectly. Further, Christ Community Church has the added benefit of clearly stating our primary values: spirituality (Christ), community (Community) and mission (Church).

Whats with the pretzel in our church logo?

We like pretzels, but this isn't one of them. The symbol is an ancient one like the cross, Christmas tree, Star of David, Labyrinth and others. And, like these, it has meant many things throughout the centuries. Its origins are Celtic and for the early Celtic Christians it held great symbolism of the trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) as well as the nature of man (flesh, mind, spirit). We like those too, and it has added meaning for us at C3AK of the three primary values expressed in our name; spirituality (Christ), community (Community) and mission (Church). The artwork we have used in the logo is an original piece painted by Carol Shupe.

We Believe

We Believe
in Jesus... Actually, we're pretty much awestruck by the majesty and glory of the Trinity. God the Father, the creator of all, the good and loving God of Heaven and Earth who created Heaven and Earth and moved Heaven and Earth all for our benefit. The Holy Spirit, the whispering wind and tongue of fire which is our ever-present counselor and comforter. All that being said though, there's just something about Jesus. It could be his divine humanity or maybe his human divinity. We're enthralled by the smiling, laughing, raging, sacrificing Jesus. He invites us to walk with him on the waves and pray with him in the garden. He calls us to travel with him the dusty roads of this faith journey called life. For all of these reasons and more, we love Jesus, and, more importantly, he loves us.in the Church... As is all too often the case, man has taken the perfection of Jesus' Church and twisted it. At times, the Church is lazy, uninspired, mistaken and downright embarrassing. Let us not forget though that the Church's shortcomings are our shortcomings. There are times, however, when the Church rises to its true calling and when that happens there is no greater force on earth. It is the assemblage of an endlessly diverse group of people united in purpose and bound to one another by Jesus and his love. In the final analysis, God's plans rest with the Church and who are we to argue with that?in the immeasurable grace of God... God's unmerited favor. A bizarre concept with which the human mind is ill-equipped to deal. All of recorded history is the story of God trying to return his fallen creation to a state of grace. It is a patently unfair gift, often accepted with difficulty and abused with great ease. A gift that's only good when accepted and impossible to earn. All in all, it's a a strange idea, but one that's an infinitely better and more beautiful route back to the Creator than any list or work devised by man.in the Bible... Authored by man, inspired, breathed if you will, by God. Written over hundreds of years, it is the sweeping saga of God's love, grace and redemption made flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. It is inspiring, confusing, poetic, historic and mystical. Every bit of understanding is based on previous comprehension and leads to future revelation. Every passage is a layered excavation revealed with the tools of maturity, experience and wisdom. Even when it can't be understood, God is present in it which is equally terrifying and assuring.We believe ... For the most part, that's the core of Christian belief. The foundation if you will. God knows there's plenty of other stuff out there. All the various and sundry issues that set denomination against denomination, church against church, believer against believer. They are important issues (morality, theology, behavior, etc) and every believer should strive with the Holy Spirit to understand how they are to be worked out in his/her life. But we believe that if the foundation is solid, everything that's built upon it will work out in the end. Be warned: what you build will not always look like the other believers around you, but that's not a bad thing. Through the differences, a fuller, and ultimately truer, portrait of the Father will be revealed.

Teaching Pastor and Student MinistryPhone: 907-349-4246Long, long ago in a galaxy farNo, thats not right.I was born a poor, blaNope. That isnt it either.O.K. Lets try this one. I was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1971. In 1972, my family came to Alaska courtesy of the U.S. Air Force. In 1977, we moved to Massachusetts where we stayed for four years before moving back to Omaha. In 1985, my dad was given the choice of moving overseas or retiring. Thats when he and my mom decided he would retire to Alaska.Now, youve got to understand that for an almost fourteen year old kid (who happens to be me), this is Hell. I knew it was fairly civilized from having lived here until I was five, but all I could picture was snow machines and Quonset huts. Not exactly the kind of place I was hoping to spend my formative, teenage years. Additionally, I am not the Alaskan outdoorsman type. I dont like hunting, fishing, skiing (downhill or cross country), or the cold. My idea of camping involves generators, televisions, microwaves, and indoor plumbing (and a green-roofed shack in the middle of the wilderness doesnt count as indoor). Why my parents couldnt choose Hawaii, where I wouldve been happy as the proverbial clam, is beyond me.Nevertheless, we came to Alaska. I spent four great, though unremarkable years at Dimond High School from which I graduated in 1989. One day in late July or early August I woke up with the thought that I should make some sort of decision about college. At that point, UAA was the only school still taking applications and the Alaska Student Loan was the only one still handing out money. From there on out, my college career was set. There were a few bumps in the road (a couple of academic probations and a change of major from Journalism and Public Communications to Education), but I managed to graduate anyway. Twice. Once in 1995 with my Bachelor of Arts in History and again in 1996 with my Bachelor of Education (Secondary).During this long, distinguished academic career, I held several jobs including shoe salesman and computer guy for Gary Kings Sporting Goods (Sound familiar? Dont worry. Itll come to you). It was also during this time that I actually discovered my spiritual life. Ive believed in God all my life, but it was that general, Im-a-good-person-so-God-must-like-me-and-will-let-me-into-Heaven-when-I-die kind of belief. It wasnt until August of 1989 that I actually met God. There was no angelic choir, heavenly lights or burning bush, but it made a difference anyway. Thats when I started attending Faith Baptist Church.I spent almost ten years at Faith. During that time, I learned a lot about religion and a little about God. Its also where I met most of my best friends, learned about ministry (as youth director under Tracy), was called to full-time ministry (February 1995), and met and married my wife Michelle. Then, 1998 rolled around, and, as a wise man recently said of the situation, everything went to hell in a hand basket. It was an ugly situation, but not nearly as bad for me as for many others. When the dust finally cleared after the explosion, almost everyone who meant something to me ended up at the same place I did. AQLC.Its been a crazy ride over the last few years. There have been lows: job termination, relocated friends and family, and the films Pearl Harbor and Mission Impossible 2. There have also been highs: the arrival of two wonderful sons (Christian and Aidan), new friends (Pat, Jay and many others), the realization of my dream of full-time ministry and many exciting opportunities. Best of all, theres Christ Community Church, Alaska. I am so excited about C3AK. The people, the leaders, the opportunities. The possibility that Anchorage might see a church the likes of which its never seen before. I dont know where C3AK will go or what it will do, but I cant wait to find out.

Senior PastorPhone: 907-349-4246Ive always considered myself to be an Alaska boy. My family arrived here in 1972 as one of the scores of military families that find themselves stationed in the Great Land. I was five years old. The only place I remember living before that is Nebraska. The things I remember most about that are giant spiders, tornadoes, the one and only time Ive ever been stung by a bee and the truly HUGE snake that lived in our back yard. Alaska holds significantly better memories and, except for a yearlong space of insanity in the late 70s when we went to North Carolina, Ive been here the whole time.I am one of those lucky ones who only went to one Elementary school (North Star), Jr. High (Romig) and one High School (West). They all served me well and I really had some great teachers. Some of them were even significant spiritual influences on me. In fact, Ill name them... Aurelie McCain, Gary Horton, Cleveland Zachary and Cam Bohman (McCarrey). Some of the spiritual impact was just that they loved me and I knew it was a love from God. Others had far more direct impact. I am thankful for that.After school I got my first job at the now extinct Gary King Sporting Goods. I sold shoes. Later I worked in the computer department. Actually I was the computer department most of the time. It was a pretty fun place to work for a while and I didnt leave for 6 years.I got into fulltime ministry in the early 90s at the now extinct Faith Baptist Church. It was the church that I grew up in, where I met most of my best friends, where I met and married my wife and where I had some great ministry experiences. I led worship, had a choir, band, orchestra, musicals, youth ministry, preached and more. I also had some of my biggest heartbreaks there. Somewhere around the end of 1998 it all went to hell in a hand basket and I found myself wondering what was next.I landed at the now extinct Anchorage Quality Life Center (is there a trend developing here?) with Pat Hadley. God used AQLC and the way they loved me, loved all of us really, to bring about some healing of the broken hearts. And He gave us a new place to serve and an environment where we could learn to be ourselves again. I am eternally thankful to the people from AQLC who played a part in that. MANY of them are still with us.So now... here we are. Me and Karen, our boys Stephen and Kristofer. The journey continues, as we are all part of this new thing, Christ Community Church, Alaska.
