"Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire;
he breaks out against all sound judgment."
Proverbs 18:1 (ESV)
There is a legendary figure in the American consciousness to which many aspire.
The rugged individual.
The lone wolf.
The solitary drifter.
You see what I am saying, right?
Solitariness might have worked for Clint Eastwood's "Man With No Name," but I am not him. Neither are you.
The truth is, we were never intended to make it through life alone. All of those in the Bible who are truly great were surrounded by others with whom they shared life. People who could support them, encourage them, and - when necessary - set them straight.
Moses had Aaron and Miriam.
David had Jonathan, Nathan, and, later, his troop of mighty men.
Jesus and the disciples.
Paul was constantly surrounded by a litany of brothers and sisters of the faith.
If you are trying to live your life in Christ on your own, you are doing it wrong. You need a group of other believers with whom you can travel. Maybe this is a group of friends. Maybe it is a life group at church. Maybe they are one and the same.
To do otherwise is to "...break out against all sound judgment."
And, consider this...
John Wayne ALWAYS had a solid group of teammates around him. Seemed to work pretty well for him.
Think about it.
