Get Out of Your Rut // Tyler Canup

I LOVE to hunt! I grew up in Georgia hunting White Tailed Deer since I was a kid. I have now been in Alaska for a little over four years, and just this year I was able to finally go hunting since moving here....All thanks to a really good friend of mine (you know who you are :)).

This past week, I went with a couple of friends on a one-day hunting trip to some islands in the Prince William Sound. This has been a dream hunt for me for a long time and I finally got to go! It was everything I expected and more! We were hunting Black Tailed Deer and although we came home with no meat it was still an amazing experience.

The beauty was incomparable and was a constant reminder of how amazing God is! But another thing that stood out to me, were the patterns of these deer. The island we were on had no bears at all, so basically, the only animal on the island is Black Tailed Deer. These deer have absolutely no threat to them, so therefore, they pretty much roam around aimlessly and have very little reason for their daily patterns other than fulfilling their basic needs.

As I was hiking and climbing and following game trails, I had a lot of time to think. God began to show me how much we are like these Black Tailed Deer.

It’s so easy for us to get stuck in our ruts and patterns and habits, and roam around in what can seem like a pointless daily life. Day in and day out, doing the same job with the same routine. I’m not saying all those things are bad, but even the most monotonous life can have incredible purpose! God has given us hope in Christ Jesus and we are more than conquerors through Him!(Romans 8:37). We are meant to be light in darkness and called to be bold and different than the world around us. We are all meant to be preachers of the gospel, no matter what job you have or where you are in life.

So, I challenge you to ask God to break you out of the norm and out of your ruts. Stand up and be a world changer for His Kingdom!

Be Blessed,
Pastor Tyler
